Standing on the edge of the earth

When I was a teenager I thought I was going to someday be a famous singer. I sang in lots of little accapella groups and a few bands during my teen years. The summer wedding season was very busy for a couple of summers!
I remember one of my favorite things to do was to imagine how I would answer the interview questions as a guest on the Merv Griffin show. Now some of you don't know who Merv is but his show was an afternoon precurser to the modern day afternoon variety shows. And if you were a hip and happening act you would get to visit his show, sing a song and sit down to answer questions about yourself.
Quite the self centered adventure.
During these days I wrote many angst ridden songs.
One I thought of today was called Standing On the Edge of the Earth.
The very simple line was
I feel I'm standing on the edge of the earth,
with my thumb out.
Watching people pass me by.
....
It goes on........

But now as I am older I understand the lyric from a different point of view.....

If anyone is interested I still have my Merv Griffin interview ready to go..
